'Turning towards the Sun' was commissioned as part of an innovative and unique collaboration between Royal College of Music Junior Department, RCM Sparks, artist Gayle Storey, Luton Music Mix and the University of Bedfordshire. This project was inspired by Charles Darwin’s The Power of Movement in Plants theory and was funded by the Arts Council England. Simon Speare was commissioned to compose a work for musicians from Luton Music Mix, the RCM Junior Department and senior RCM students incorporating data gathered from measuring the movement of plants in twelve sites around Luton. Artist Gayle Storey turned the data into lines which were used as starting points for the Speare work, pieces by RCM Junior Department composers and her own visual art. This performance is conducted by Chris Doggett.
